FEES

■　First Consultation

First consultation fee is 10,000 an hour plus tax.

■　Fee Arrangements

Basically there are two types of fee arrangements:

Charge by the Hour

We charge for the time spent to work for the client. Hourly rate varies depending on each attorney.

Advance Fee and
Contingent Fee

Legal fees are divided in two payments: the advance fee and the contingent fee. This fee arrangement is typically used when the client has a clear goal in hiring an attorney, such as collection of certain amount of money or getting a divorce.

Advance Fee

Advance fee is payable at the time the client hires an attorney. This fee covers lawyers work done from the time of employment until the judgment of or settlement at the first instance court. The sum is calculated based on the value of the goal as described in the table below.

The value up to 3 million yen	8%
The value more than 3 million yen up to 30 million yen	5%
The value over 30 million yen	3%

For example, if the goal is collection of 40 million yen, the value is 40 million yen, and the advance fee will be 1.89 million yen plus tax.

Contingent Fee

Contingent fee is payable upon completion of the work for which the lawyer was hired. The sum is calculated based on the value of the result as described in the table below.

The value up to 3 million yen	16%
The value more than 3 million yen up to 30 million yen	10%
The value over 30 million yen	6%

If the client who sought collection of 40 million yen received a judgment ordering his/her debtor to pay 20 million yen, the contingent fee will be 2.18 million yen.

Flexibility

Legal fees are not necessarily determined rigidly according to these percentages. Each attorney will determine the fees after speculating the possible workload, length of the procedure, and other factors, and discussing with the client.

■　Expenses

Expenses are charged separately. Expenses include, but not limited to, fees for copying documents, postage, transportation, court filing fees, and translation.


If and when trip outside the metropolitan Tokyo area is required, daily allowance is charged separately. The sum of daily allowance varies depending upon the time required.
